Week 7-20-26

This Week's Mission:

Build a Referral Machine

Most contractors hope customers refer them.

Successful contractors ask for referrals in a way that makes it easy for customers to say yes.

This week, your goal is to create a system that consistently generates referrals.

Step 1: Make a List

Write down your last 20 customers.

Don't overthink it. Just make the list.

Step 2: Reach Out

Send each customer a simple text.

Hi [Name], I hope everything is still going well with the work we did for you. I just wanted to check in and thank you again for your business. If you know anyone needing [your service], I'd really appreciate you keeping me in mind. Hope you're doing well!

No pressure.

No sales pitch.

Just a friendly reminder that you're still in business.

Step 3: Ask Every New Customer

At the end of every job, ask:

"If you were happy with our work, who else do you know that might need this done?"

One sentence.

That's it.

Most contractors never ask.

Step 4: Make Referring Easy

Create a note on your phone with:

  • Your name

  • Business name

  • Phone number

  • Website

  • Facebook page

When someone says they'll refer you, simply send them that information so they can forward it with one tap.

Don't make people hunt for your contact information.

Step 5: Follow Up

If someone says,

"I gave your name to my neighbor."

Don't just wait.

A few days later, send a quick thank-you:

Thanks again for thinking of me and passing my name along. I really appreciate it.

People who refer you once are much more likely to do it again if you acknowledge it.

Why This Works

Warm referrals are some of the highest-quality leads you'll ever get.

The trust has already been established before you even answer the phone.

The mistake most contractors make isn't that they don't do good work—it's that they disappear after the job is finished.

Stay in touch, ask for referrals, and make it easy for customers to recommend you.

This Week's Challenge

By next Monday:

  • Contact 20 past customers.

  • Ask for a referral on every job you complete this week.

  • Save your referral text in your phone so you can reuse it.

Three simple actions can keep your name circulating long after the job is done.

Remember: You don't need hundreds of new people to know who you are. You need the people who already trust you to remember your name when someone asks, "Do you know a good contractor?"
