THE "NEW NEIGHBOR" STRATEGY
This Week's Mission
Every week, dozens or even hundreds of families move into your service area.
Most of them need contractors.
Very few know who to call.
Your goal this week is to become one of the first contractors they discover.
Why This Works
People who just moved are far more likely than the average homeowner to need services.
They're looking for contractors before they have established relationships.
You want to meet them before your competition does.
Step 1 – Find New Neighborhoods
Look for:
New subdivisions
Recently completed phases of neighborhoods
Apartment-to-home developments
Areas with a lot of "Sold" signs
You don't need a huge list.
Find three neighborhoods.
Step 2 – Introduce Yourself
Don't try to sell.
Introduce yourself.
Example:
"Welcome to the neighborhood! I'm a local contractor and just wanted to leave my information in case you ever need help with drainage, grading, pressure washing, landscaping, junk removal, etc."
No pressure.
No hard sales.
Step 3 – Create a "Welcome Discount"
Offer something simple.
Not 30% off.
Something like:
Welcome to the neighborhood.
Mention this flyer and receive a free estimate and $50 off any project over $500.
The goal isn't to discount your business.
The goal is to give them a reason to save your information.
Step 4 – Think Beyond the Homeowner
Visit businesses that welcome new residents.
Examples:
Moving companies
Storage facilities
Local insurance agents
Utility contractors
Flooring stores
Paint stores
Ask one question:
"Do new homeowners ever ask you for recommendations for contractors?"
Step 5 – Build a "Welcome Packet"
Put together:
Business card
One-page flyer
List of services
QR code to your Google reviews
Simple.
Professional.
Easy to keep.
Step 6 – Track It
Write down:
Neighborhood
Date visited
Packets left
Calls received
Jobs booked
Over time you'll know which neighborhoods are worth revisiting.
This Week's Challenge
Reach 50 new homeowners.
Not random homeowners.
People who recently moved into your market.
Don't This Week
❌ Blanket entire cities.
❌ Leave generic flyers with no offer.
❌ Expect immediate results.
Think long-term.
You're planting seeds with people who haven't yet chosen "their contractor."
Final Thought
Most contractors compete for homeowners who already have trusted contractors.
This week, compete for homeowners before they've built those relationships.
Sometimes the easiest customer to win...
...is the one who's brand new to town.
